7 weeks

Today I am 7 weeks pregnant! It still sounds crazy, even to me! It’s a funny thing, you try and know you want this so much but then when it happens, you go through so many phases of denial and shock and you wonder what in the world you were thinking. Today is one of those days. The first trimester nausea, fatigue, and insomnia are in full swing and this morning has been rather rough. But, they tell me it will all be worth it…and I believe them…most of the time…

There’s no baby bump yet but I can tell that Poppy is growing by my thickening waistline. Poppy is what we are calling the baby. When we first found out we were preggers, I was 4 weeks and the chart said that the baby would be the size of a poppy seed. We started calling him/her “Poppy” and it’s just kinda stuck for now. I think it’s better than saying “the baby” all the time, feels more personal this way. Now at 7 weeks, Poppy is no longer a seedling and doubled in size just from last week! He/She is now a half an inch long and about the size of a blueberry. No wonder the mommies feel bad at this point in the pregnancy, there’s a lot growing and changing in there!

Poppy now has arms and legs and is responsive to touch. I don’t know how anyone could doubt that life really does exist and that they really are tiny people even this early. At 5 weeks, when a lot of moms don’t even know they are pregnant yet, the baby’s heart is already forming and beginning to beat. Here is a picture of a 7 week old baby to give you an idea of what Poppy looks like, I think it’s amazing!

Sidenote: today is my PaPa’s 78th birthday!! We love you PaPa and wish we could come see you today!! We’ll make up for it as soon as this nausea and fatigue improve a little. Have a wonderful day and eat lots of cake 🙂
