Power Struggle

I am having a power struggle at this very minute with a formidable, however adorable, foe. Her name is Laelynn Mary and, as the saying goes, “though she be but little, she is fierce”.

It is quite the literal power struggle; I want to write and she wants to push the power button.

Thus far, I have maintained control over this battle but it has been hard fought. Many tears have been shed and the wailing of the losing side is nearly unbearable at times.

But I must win this battle.

Not so much because what I am writing is so very vital, but because in order for her to be a thriving, happy person, she must learn boundaries.

I’m not sure that any of us, at any ag=e= (a slight victory for her there on the “=” button) are ever able to fully finish learning this lesson. I still struggle with boundaries as an adult and mother of 3.

My least favorite boundaries are the ones that enforce the speedlimit, the physical ones that require me to stop and rest, and the ones about finances.

I want to drive fast, never have to stop doing what I want to do and shop whenever I want to.

The problem with that is that I would likely end up dead in a car accident from speeding while falling asleep at the wheel (because I was up working on projects all night) and I would most likely be broke and deep in debt from the shopping I was on my way home from doing.

Sigh.

So, no, my dear, you can not push the power button on mommy’s computer. No matter how hard and long you fight and no matter how many tears and screams of agony you muster up, it simply will not happen. You are in good company though, in your misery, I too am learning the same lessons.

Maybe one day we can compare notes.
