We’re growing up!

The past few weeks have been so full of life happenings that I thought it might be a good idea to share some updates on our little crew. It is amazing how fast time flies and how quickly it is filled up with activities and special moments. I’m trying to focus in on the important ones and be fully present for each milestone, but the chaos of keeping everything running sometimes gets the better of me. For the summer, I think my main goal is to just embrace this season of life with these amazing little creatures and keep my goals centered around the things that will last.

Jonah had his 6th birthday (gasp!) and has now graduated from kindergarten. His graduation was so sweet and watching him walk in his cap and gown was a huge moment for us. It marked the completion of our first year as homeschoolers and also marked the end of his preschool season. He is growing into his childhood season now and the days of babyhood, toddlerhood, and preschooler are officially over. Watching him begin to bloom into a fantastically humorous little person who is brimming with personality and intelligence has been a joy. He is looking forward to the summer and beginning Karate school, where he will “become a ninja”, and starting a summer reading program to sharpen his phonics and spelling skills. He is also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new glasses which we just found out he needed. As it turns out, our little man is a bit farsighted which may explain some of his struggles with handwriting and fine motor skills. The glasses look beyond adorable on him, he looks so much like his daddy it is unreal.

Haven is about to turn four years old this weekend. Again, another milestone moment for her and for our family. Our sweet and sassy first little girl is fully past the toddler years and diving headfirst into the preschool years. She came into our lives with this head full of fiery red, curly hair, big blue eyes, and enough personality for an entire crew of girls. She is a force of nature but as gentle and big-hearted as an angel. While she did not complete a formal curriculum this past year, she loved doing school papers with Jonah and impressed me by keeping up pace with him in several areas. Her handwriting is very good, her coloring is excellent, and she does a pretty good job with numbers too. The love of her life right now is anything and every kitty cat related. She is convinced that she actually is a cat and often refers to herself in the third person as “the kitty” which is both adorable and sometimes a bit annoying. Her favorite colors are pink, purple, and rellow (yellow), in that order, and she also loves playing on her little piano and singing her own made-up songs. She and Jonah both will be starting piano lessons over the fall which will be a wonderful new adventure for all of us.

Laelynn is my little firecracker wrapped up in ooey gooey love. She is, thankfully, not graduating or having a birthday or moving into a new phase of life. I’m not sure my heart could take it if they were all changing that much as the same time! However, she is growing and her newest development is her ability to communicate better with us through a growing vocabulary and full sentences. She has been saying the basics: mama, dada, bubba, sa-sa (sassy), duck, bebe (baby), and other names for a while, but now we are saying things like “help peease” and “umm…I dun know” and “I did it!” I love hearing her express herself in these new ways…although I can’t say that I love the little tantrums that we are now employing to express ourselves as well. Keeping up with the big kids keeps her on the move and inspires her to do things on her own. The look of pride on her face when she attempts something new and accomplishes it is one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. Her face beams with joy and the dimples pop out and her eyes light up, it’s just magic.

All three of my little people are growing faster and faster each day. Each day brings new challenges and new frustrations and new joys. I’ve never been so busy, or so happy.
