Labor (less) Day Weekend 2017

Labor Day weekend 2017 is in the books!

My first thoughts were to spend the 3 days weekend painting the entryway, working on the living room, and possibly clearing out the front garden. I mean, why not take advantage of the man being home to help, right? Maybe not.

After taking some desperately needed downtime with my favorite little sis on Saturday, I realized how much I and the rest of the crew needed a break. It’s been a busy season of change lately and we needed to decompress and reconnect before I pushed us over the edge of sanity. You see, I am a lover of all things organized, so moving is a massive challenge to my obsessive need to make everything “right”. Life with kids is messy, and I have made peace with that, but I don’t like the chaotic feeling of not knowing where the lids to the sippy cups are, or not knowing which box has my missing shoe in it.

Motivated by my discomfort, I have pushed hard and fast to get everything out and put away and settled. Sometimes though, I neglect to make sure that I’m not overwhelming my man or overlooking the minions. It’s a balance that I am working on.

Anyways, all plans for tasks were quickly abandoned and we spent the 3 days at the zoo, exploring Ikea, going to church, and enjoying time with friends.

We had a blast and it felt amazing to not worry about nap times and bedtimes and boxes and lists and regular life.

Lesson learned…sometimes, you gotta slow down and play.

Saturday Part 1 – Go see Dinos Alive at the zoo with Aunt Lory

Saturday Part 2 – get rained out of the zoo early and go to IKEA instead

Saturday Part 3 – A much needed time out with just Mommy and Aunt Lory and Mani-Pedis

Sunday is for church and worshipping our Savior. We are so blessed to spend it with Nana and Pop!

Monday FUNday at the Zoo with great friends!!

Haven rode her first rollercoaster!! She was barely tall enough and got a little nervous right before it started but she was so brave and did great!!

Cooling off at the Splash Pad. This was Laelynn’s favorite part of the day.

After we were done with our picnic lunch, we said goodbye to our friends and spent the rest of the day exploring animal habitats and being silly.

All three minions, yes, even baby Laelynn, got to pet sting rays! Laelynn was the most excited anxious to touch them. Haven was a little nervous but loved it as soon as she tried it. Jonah was excited…until we actually saw them swimming and flapping around. Then his little nerves kicked in and he was NOT going to try it. After talking it through for a while, I held his hand firmly and we did it together. After the first touch, I said “Jonah, you did it! I’m so proud of you!” To which he replied, “No I didn’t! You made me do it!” which had the people around in stitches laughing.

After a long day, poor Luelue was asleep before we left the parking lot.

We can’t wait to go back!!
