Pebble the Penguin

Once upon a time, in the chilly land of Snowcap Island, there lived a little penguin named Pebble. Pebble was unlike any other penguin in the colony. While most of the penguins loved the icy, white world they lived in, Pebble had a fascination with colors—especially rainbows.

Every time the sky would clear after a snowfall, Pebble would waddle to the tallest hill and gaze up, hoping to catch a glimpse of the magical bands of color. “One day, I’ll find a rainbow,” Pebble would say, smiling to herself. “And when I do, I’ll follow it to the very end!”

One bright morning, as the sun peeked through the clouds, something extraordinary happened. A delicate shimmer appeared in the sky. It started as a faint glow, then grew brighter and brighter, until a beautiful rainbow stretched across the horizon! Pebble’s eyes lit up with excitement. “It’s here! It’s finally here!” she chirped.

Without wasting a moment, Pebble set off on an adventure. She waddled past the icebergs, slid down snowy hills, and tiptoed across frosty bridges, all while keeping her eyes on the rainbow. Along the way, she met her friends: a seal named Sandy and a wise old puffin named Pippin.

“Where are you off to in such a hurry?” asked Sandy, sliding alongside Pebble.

“I’m following the rainbow to find where it begins!” Pebble said joyfully.

Pippin ruffled his feathers. “No one’s ever found the end of a rainbow, little one. They say it’s magic, always just out of reach.”

But Pebble was determined. “I have to try!”

As they continued on, the rainbow seemed to move farther and farther away. Pebble grew tired, but she refused to give up. They passed sparkling ice caves and crossed frozen rivers, all while chasing the colorful arc.

Just when it seemed like the rainbow might disappear, they reached the edge of a crystal-clear lake. And there, in the reflection of the water, the rainbow appeared more vivid and close than ever before. Pebble, Sandy, and Pippin stood at the shore, gazing at the brilliant colors dancing on the surface.

Pebble sighed, realizing that maybe Pippin was right. “I guess you can’t catch a rainbow after all…”

But as she stared into the water, Pebble noticed something wonderful. The rainbow wasn’t just in the sky; it was everywhere! In the shimmer of the ice, the sparkle of the snowflakes, and even in the twinkle of her friends’ eyes. The colors she had been chasing weren’t far away—they were all around her, in the beauty of her snowy world and in the warmth of her friendships.

“I didn’t find the end of the rainbow,” Pebble said with a smile, “but I found something even better.”

From that day on, Pebble still loved rainbows, but she realized she didn’t need to chase them to be happy. The magic of colors was always with her, in the simple things and the friends who joined her on the journey.

And every once in a while, when the sun peeked out after a snowy day, Pebble would look up at the sky, and a rainbow would smile back at her.

The end.
