Kids are basically giant kitchen ants.

Have you ever wondered how in the world that one tiny ant can turn into an infestation in a matter of minutes in your kitchen? You leave out one, un-rinsed mug of hot tea and suddenly you have an entire ecosystem on your counter. It’s incredible how fast those little guys can rally around an open opportunity for a bite to eat. Well, as a mom, I now know how and why it happens. Allow me to explain:

In every colony of ants, there is one queen, and a whooooooole lot of kids.

Today I got a little hungry and needed a small munch to hold me over until lunchtime. With the kids tucked away in Jonah’s room playing legos, I quietly went to the pantry and pulled down the container of tortilla chips. They weren’t in a loud, crinkley bag, they were in a nice, quiet container. I opened the lid, took out about 5 chips, and quickly replaced it back into the pantry. I was one chip down when here comes Haven out of no where. “Meow Meow hungry!” (because she is a cat at all times lately).  Sigh. “Ok, here take one.” and off she went. Less than a minute later, here comes Jonah, no words, just an open mouth like a little bird. “Fine, here, you can have one.” Before he could even turn around to leave the kitchen, here came LaeLaeLue with her little hand reaching up and saying “Peeese! Peeese!”

You see, the queen ant just wanted a small snack, but, the sixth sense of the kids kicked in, and here came the herd.

On the upside, my calorie counting will be happy.
