My Man

Today is my Michael’s 36th birthday. It’s going to be a pretty simple one because it’s falling smack dab in the middle of this move into our new house, but it will still be a special day. He deserves to be celebrated even if it is during a busy season.

Let me tell you a little about my man.

He is smart.
He is extraordinarily good at what he does. Not only because he is naturally gifted, but because he is willing to continue learning new skills. He is passionate about his job and it shows in his work ethic and quality. He is not only a smart worker though, he is also a hard worker. He will do whatever is needed to get the project done and done right. These characteristics also show up in his personal life. When we got married, he knew how to change the oil, replace brakes, and do various other small maintenance projects on our cars. Now, 11 years later, in an effort to save money and be a good example to our kids about fixing your own problems, he has taught himself to do numerous other car related jobs. He has replaced AC systems, motor mounts, spark plugs, power steering parts, and tons of others.

He is kind.
Michael’s heart is bigger than he is. He is empathetic towards others and is generous to a fault, both with his possessions and time. You won’t meet very many people as willing and ready to give someone a ride, buy them lunch, solve their computer issues, or meet whatever need he can. He doesn’t like to be recognized for what he does so you most likely will never know the effort he has invested into other people. I’m so proud to have my son looking up to a man who is strong and kind hearted.

He is a great dad.
Michael may tease about the hair-pulling madness of having three little people close in age, but if you watch him, you will find him dominating the dad thing. He loves his kids with his entire heart and it shows in how he values each of them individually. He is my right hand man every evening and every weekend. Even after working hard all day, he will come home and jump into the craziness without skipping a beat. If watching Jonah and Haven do their Taekwondo costs him a late night working, so what? He is there for them no matter what the cost. The minions know that no matter what, their daddy will always be there for them. I think that’s why you will find them watching for  him to come home from work every day and squealing with delight as soon as he walks in the door.

He is an awesome husband.
This one, you will just have to take my word for. Michael and I have been through a great deal of personal obstacles during our marriage that had the potential to break us. Marriage is not easy and learning to work with another person on every decision is not an easy thing to do. Differing perspectives and personalities are sometimes hard to mesh together. What has gotten us through the challenges, is our friendship. Michael is truly my best friend. There is no one I would rather hang out with or share adventures with. He’s not a perfect guy and I’m not a perfect girl but we are perfectly suited for each other.

Happy birthday, babe, we love you!!!
