I Corinthians 13 – day 4

6(charity)Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

This one is a little harder to write about. What? I never claimed to be brilliant.

What I came up with as far as not rejoicing in iniquity is that love does not take pleasure in sin. Not to say that being in love will cause you to never sin but it should stop your pleasure in it. For example, if you love God (of course we all ‘love’ God, what I mean is a deep and dedicated love) you don’t get the same high from sin as you used to. It will feel dirty and make you feel guilty. Along the same vein, if we truly love our spouse as we should, we are naturally more dedicated and faithful to them and them alone.

Rejoiceth in the truth is the direct result of not rejoicing in iniquity. Truth and sin can not coexist. They are polar opposites that contradict each other. There’s not much more to expound on here so allow me to take my own personal spin on it for a minute.

I think that rejoicing in the truth has no exclusions, even if the truth is painful or hard to hear. When someone you love shares a truth with you which is difficult to accept, you don’t have to rejoice in the news but you can find joy in the fact that the truth was revealed. When faced with something that is emotionally challenging, it helps to find a bright spot. A sliver lining, so to speak. The fact that the one you love loves you enough back to not lie to you should be encouraging if nothing else.

This post is significantly shorter than the others which means there’s probably a lot to this verse that I am missing.
