more than I can handle

When you are in the middle of something that is stressful, how many times have you been told “God will never give you more than you can handle”? How many times have you offered it to others as a comfort? I have many, many times. It was one of my favorite comforts in hard situations.

So you can imagine my shock when, during the sermon Sunday morning, the pastor said that he doesn’t believe that. “What?! How can he say that?!” was my first reaction, but then he went on to say that he had never found proof of that statement in the Bible. The verse closest to it is that God will never allow us to be “tempted above that we are able” which is a different point altogether.

So what now? Is God really going to allow something into my life that He knows I can’t handle? Yes. Personally, I find myself in that position almost daily. But here’s the kicker: God will never allow more into your life that HE can’t handle. The key is to lean on the Lord and trust Him to “work all things together for good”.

So the next time you find yourself at the end of your rope, instead of leaning on your own strength with the idea that nothing will ever be more than you can handle, how about having a little faith and leaning on your Lord instead. After all, NOTHING is more than He can handle!
